Flag Football is for Girls Too

Clarington Flag Football is a fully coed league. Girls ages 7 to 17 are welcome, celebrated, and belong here just as much as anyone else on the field. This page is for every parent who has ever wondered if flag football is the right fit for their daughter. The answer is yes.

Women's Flag Football is Having a Moment

This is not a new trend. Women have been playing flag football for decades. But right now, the sport is growing faster than ever, and female athletes are leading that charge. The NFL has invested heavily in growing the women's game. Flag football is an official Olympic sport starting at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and women's flag football will be front and center on that stage.

The NFL FLAG program, which Clarington Flag Football is officially affiliated with, has seen massive growth in female participation. Across North America, girls are discovering that flag football offers something a lot of other sports do not: speed, strategy, teamwork, and the chance to wear an NFL jersey and play the game they have always watched on TV.

Why Girls Love Flag Football

No Contact, All Competition

Flag football is non-contact. There are no tackles, no blocking, and no physical intimidation. The game is won with speed, route running, reads, and execution. That levels the playing field in a way that makes flag football genuinely exciting for female athletes.

Every Position is Open

In our coed league, girls play every position. Quarterback, receiver, rusher, center. There are no designated roles by gender. If you can run a route, read a defense, or throw a spiral, you play. And even if you cannot, we will show you how. And even if you can't, we will show you how.

It Builds Real Confidence

There is something powerful about a girl who steps onto a football field and owns it. Flag football builds confidence in a way that is hard to replicate. Athletes learn to compete, communicate, lead, and win together.

The NFL is Behind It

The NFL has made a serious commitment to growing women's flag football at every level. That means more visibility, more opportunities, and more pathways for female athletes who fall in love with the game here in Clarington.

Olympic Future

Your daughter could grow up to represent Canada at the Olympics playing flag football. That is not a stretch. The sport is growing that fast. Starting young in a program like ours is exactly how that path begins.

A Community That Welcomes Everyone

Our league is built around inclusion. Every athlete, regardless of gender, experience level, or background, is welcomed and supported. We do not just tolerate diversity. We celebrate it.

Our Vision for Females in Flag

Right now, Clarington Flag Football is a fully coed league and we are proud of that. But our vision goes further. We hope to one day offer three distinct league options: an all-female league for girls who want to compete exclusively with other girls, our current coed league, and an all-boys league. The goal is simple. We want every athlete in Clarington to have a home in flag football, on their own terms.

If you are a parent of a daughter who loves sport, loves competition, and has ever looked at a football field and thought "I want to be out there" - this is her league. We are here for it.
